webcomic artists especially, but artists in general would be great. The Bay Area has BAAU, but we got nuffin’. I want to art with other cool folks. I only know of Beckey, EK and Powflip here in ATX, but there’s Pepper in Houston, and I’m sure there’s others… :’I
Also. I’m…
True, but do you think something like bi-monthly meets, or etc. is plausible? Texas IS huge, but I’d be willing to drive a distance once every two months or so.
I could go for that :o Most TX comic & webcomic artists I know are in the Houston, DFW, or Austin areas, so…
Hey, did I hear somethin’ about Texas webcartoonists? Hmmmmm?
and all I could think was, “that’s a hell of a lot of tl;dr for
Probably gonna delete this once i have some coffee and get less grumpy.
More than a few people are asking why I’d want S*P to have a horizontal layout, which is fair.
The main reason is I always wanted one but, back in 2001, I was painfully aware that 1) not everyone surfed the web at a higher resolution or with a larger monitor and 2) not everyone had their browser window maximized. Basically, I was going by the net standards of 1998-1999 to be safe. The problem with the format I chose, though, it is usually requires more scrolling - especially when I do strips that are, say, 20 panels (like I seem to do once a year).
The other reason is working on the Year One Book. It has made me hate that Two by Two layout more than I can explain - moreso, I think, for the first year because I had a set comic width but not height. The layouts I’m working with now will more easily fit in books, like the old S*P ‘37 strips, but have taller panels.
That being said, beyond that it’ll be business as usual in the strips and if I have a comic that I feel NEEDS to be more than 4 panels - well, it will be.
(edit) This is not the only change that’s coming to how the comic is run, by the way. There’s more - and it’s all geared towards making my life easier. However, none of it affects content. That should really be all that matters but almost ten years of doing this has shown me that’s never the case and there’s always someone who, if ANYTHING changes, will start dropping passive aggressive insults or threaten to take their ball home - but most people honestly won’t give a shit. And I’m fine with that.
